One of the world’s largest retailers suspends supplier over animal abuse

A recent article in the journal Supply Management focuses on supplier risks that can negatively impact a company’s reputation. Reporter Will Green describes the experiences of Tesco, one of the world’s largest retailers. A supplier producing goats milk products sold by the company’s groceries was accused of animal abuse – leading to an immediate suspension and investigation.

Green asked apexanalytix SVP Danny Thompson for his perspective on such reputation risks and what companies can do to protect their brand.

"To protect the quality of their products and support their reputations as ethical providers, companies must closely monitor their suppliers,” Thompson said.

He added that the most effective assurance programs include not only onsite inspections, but also continuous monitoring of global news to identify emerging issues early.
